The future of railways lies in Milan: report on our visit to Expo Ferroviaria 2025
Milan, 2 October 2025
Today marked an important milestone for our team, as we had the pleasure of immersing ourselves in the excellence and innovation of the railway sector by visiting Expo Ferroviaria 2025 at Fiera Milano Rho. Now in its 12th edition, the event has once again established itself as Italy’s leading showcase for railway technologies, products and systems—a crossroads of ideas and business that projects rail transport into the future.
From the early hours of the morning, we walked through the large exhibition halls, where hundreds of Italian and international exhibitors showcased the latest frontiers of innovation. The common thread of this year’s edition was clearly the ecological transition and the digitalisation of transport.
Among the stands, we had the opportunity to see up close:
- Next-generation trains: great attention was given to hydrogen and battery-powered models, such as the hydrogen shunting and last-mile locomotive and Alstom’s new Coradia Stream regional train. Solutions that demonstrate a concrete commitment to reducing emissions and creating more sustainable mobility.
- Safety and smart infrastructure: technological innovation also focuses on network safety, as shown by intelligent systems for infrastructure monitoring and the use of Artificial Intelligence for predictive analysis and maintenance.
- Advanced digitalisation: particular interest was aroused by technologies such as the Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) for freight wagons, a system that promises to make rail freight transport more efficient, safer and more competitive across Europe.
Our visit was not limited to the exhibition area; it was also a valuable networking opportunity. We attended several meetings and conferences, including those discussing “200 years of the modern railway: from steam to hydrogen,” where institutions and industry leaders discussed the progress of strategic projects and the need for new skills to drive the sector’s transformation.
Conclusions:
Expo Ferroviaria 2025 is not just a trade fair but a true laboratory of ideas. Our participation gave us a clear and inspiring vision of the directions the sector is taking: toward mobility that is more green, connected and safe.
We thank the organisers and all exhibitors for creating such a high-profile event. We return enriched with knowledge and new potential collaborations, ready to integrate these innovations into our future projects.
